Herb and Felicia Gray—Mixing Love and Money

Recipe for Success

There are certainly things that just don’t mix –like oil and water, toothpaste and orange juice, and glass houses and stones –but a combination here in Charlotte, that seems to “work out just fine,” is the name Herb and Felicia. These successful, loving and philanthropic Charlotteans definitely have the makings of a perfect mix!

Like salt and pepper, Herb and Felicia Gray are seen around town as a team, and very seldom will you hear one name mentioned without the other. Collectively, this couple has proved they have what it takes to mix love and money!

Being the parents of a beautiful baby girl, the Grays find themselves busy growing their personal businesses and careers, while finding time to give back! From local charities like 100 Black Men to The Harvey B. Gantt Center, the Grays are heavily involved in raising awareness and funds for worthy local programs. Known for their popular “happy hour” gatherings, annual holiday party, and golf tournaments, they make it their business to make giving “FUN!” Having raised well over a half-million dollars for charity, this power-couple is truly a blessing to many.

The Gray’s most popular charitable event is the annual Gray Classic Golf Tournament, which they have been hosting since 2008.  The mission of the Classic is to provide an avenue for young students to achieve higher education, network, and engage in mentorship programs.  This couple also supports various causes in the community, like helping needy families and veterans, and donating to several local and state political campaigns.

Collectively, Herb and Felicia have been awarded the Urban League of Central Carolinas Whitney M. Young award, the Good Scout Award by the Mecklenburg County Council Boy Scouts of America, University of North Carolina, Charlotte’s Black Alumni Chapter Excellence in Leadership Award and the Johnson C. Smith University Presidential Distinction Award.

Herb is an entrepreneur, who owns Life Enhancement Services, a nationally accredited mental health agency headquartered in Charlotte –with additional offices in Georgia and Washington, D.C.  He keeps “extra” busy serving on a number of boards for various organizations and non-profits, including the Urban League of Central Carolinas, the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts & Culture, the Harris YMCA, Opera Carolina, Livingstone College, the JCSU Board of Visitors and the Chris Canty Foundation. This North Carolina A&T alum is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Felicia, a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, has worked in the information technology field for over 20 years.  Currently as a Quality Assurance Testing Manager at Bank of America, she manages end-to-end systems integration, and testing consumer and small business banking initiatives.

Together— a “match made in heaven.” The Grays believe strongly in giving back to their community and using their influence to encourage friends to do the same.

“It started with our parents,” says Felicia. “Both our parents had us involved in the church doing things since we were little ...what we are doing now, is third generation.” Felicia goes on to say that they have been very fortunate to have met friends and supporters who honor their same desire to give back, which ignites them to coordinate efforts to carry out the work.

Herb and Felicia’s love, benevolence and dedication to community keep them going strong. Although they make marriage look easy, we know like with anything, their success takes hard work –and more hard work! This couple has seemingly found the ideal ratio of ingredients—mixing their love for one another, with their love for giving back—a “recipe for marriage” definitely worth sharing.
